Big Joe Turner

Born: Joseph Vernon Turner - May 18, 1911 in Kansas City, MO
Died: Nov 24, 1985 in Inglewood, CA

Joe Turner, known as a blues shouter, and performed throughout the Mississippi Delta. The style of music performed by Big Joe Turner was a direct result of the dissolution of big bands, and swing bands after the 1940s. Blues shouters added surprising lyrics to lure everyday folks looking to have some fun! The fragmented bands formed when the big bands were no longer popular. The smaller bands had some extremely talented musicians. This style of popular music was an amalgamation of blues, jazz, big band, swing, and race music (which evolved into R & B).
