Danny and the Chevelles played local clubs, high school dances, and local area lounges. They covered mostly rhythm and blues artists including Bobby Bland, Junior Parker, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, and James Brown. The band emphasized heavy horn section harmonies using a trumpet, alto, and tenor saxophones to achieve a Mississippi Delta, Memphis blues sound.
