  • Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown -- Born: Clarence Brown, April 18, 1924 - Vinton, Louisiana -- Died: September 11, 2005 - Baton Rouge, Louisiana from a long battle with lung cancer and heart disease. After losing his home to Hurricane Katrina, and evacuating to Baton Rouge, he became severely ill before dying.

  • Earl King -- Born: Earl Silas Johnson IV: February 7, 1934 - New Orleans, LA -- Died: April 17, 2003 - New Orleans, LA. He contributed immensely with recordings spanning the R&B and Soul genres, with hits throughout the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

  • Roscoe Gordon -- Born: April 10, 1928 - Memphis, TN -- Died: June 11, 2002 - New York, NY. He performed with the Beale Streeters, and as a solo singer he recorded many early R&B songs at Sun Studios in Memphis.

    2001

  • Ernie K-Doe -- Born: Ernest Kador, Jr: February 22, 1936 - New Orleans -- Died: July 5, 2001 -- New Olreans. Well known for his hit, "Mother-In-Law," he was a master integrator of R&B and Soul into one foot-stompin' sound unequaled in music today.

  • Bobby Marchan -- Born Oscar James Gibson - April 30, 1930 - Youngstown, Ohio -- Died: December 5, 1999 - New Orleans, LA. He created regional hits and perforemd as a female impersonator. Due to complications from liver cancer, he passed away at the reported age of 69 years.
  • Roland Stone -- Born Roland Leblanc August 12, 1940 - New Orleans, LA -- Died: December 22, 1999 - New Orleans, LA. He created a repetoire of regional hits, and due to complications from hernia surgery, he passed away at the reported age of 59 years.
  • Tommy Ridgley -- Born Thomas Herman Ridgley - October 30, 1925 - New Orleans, LA -- Died: August 11, 1999 - New Orleans, LA. He produced a string of regional hits with his band, Tommy Ridgley and the Untouchables.
